Bangalore Culture - Learn the Culture and Tradition of Bangalore

Cultural life of Bangalore is closely related to the diversity of its population. More or less every nook and corner of India have their representative in this Silicon Valley and multi cultural spirit can also be witnessed during any festival when the folks iron out the region, religion, class, caste barriers and take part heartily. However, Bangalore has its own traditional festivals like Bangalore Karaga, Dussera, Deepavali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Makara Sankrati and Ugadi.

The Bangalore Karaga or Karaga Mahotsava stands out as the oldest event celebrated in Bangalore. Dussera is the state festival of the Karnataka state, that represents the victory of truth. A standard traditional remembrance of the antique kingdom of Mysore, the festival has a great importance to the Kannadiga population in Bangalore.

Other festivals like Sri Ramanavami, Varamaha Lakshmi Vrata, Sri Krishna Janmastami, Vaikunta Ekadashi, Holi, Ramzan, Bakrid and Christmas are also celebrated with equal spirit and enthusiasm.

The food habits of Bangaloreans differ from person to person. Idly, Poori, Dosa, Sambar, Rice and Bisibelebath are preferred by the Kannadigas. The North Indian style, Andhra Style, Kerala style, Chinese, Italian, Indonesian, Lebanese, Persian, Sri Lankan, Mexian cuisines are also found in Bangalore. However the existence of the many South Indian hotels and restaurants serving regional food illustrate people have kept their traditions intact.

Since most of the population of the city is the software professionals working for multinational firms; the city witnesses the influence of Western culture.

The pubs, nightclubs as well as the party have become a part of Bangaoreans life. This has opened the way for the latest culture known as 'Pub culture' and that is why city has a lot more than 200 clubs in addition to bars together with a dazzling night life.

When it comes to medium of communication, English is spoken with great fluency and many people speak Kannada, the local language.

The people of Bangalore are also sport lovers particularly cricket. The Chinnaswamy Stadium (Karnataka State Cricket Association) is one of the important cricket stadiums of India. The Bangalore city has gifted a lot of talented international cricketers. BS Prasanna, Syed Kirmani, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid and Sunil Joshi are few of them.

Bangalore city is the center of Kannada film industry (also called as Sandal Wood) where above fifty films are released every year. Dr. Rajkumar is most popular actor of Kannada film industry. Apart from the sandalwood, this city houses many concerts and classical performances of veteran artists. Parallel cinema and theater are very alive in the cultural circle of this city.
