Halasuru Someshwara Temple

The Halasuru Someshwara Temple is located in Halasuru, one the main localities of Bangalore. The temple is one amongst the oldest temples of Bangalore and the temple is dedicated to Lord Someshwara (Lord Shiva). One of the most amazing facts about this temple is that Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma are also worshipped here.

The Halasuru Someshwara Temple constructed between the 12th and 13th centuries CE, in ancient Indian architecture (mixture of Hoysala, Chola and Vijayanagara architecture). The Halasuru Someshwara Temple was renovated and beautified in 16th century by chieftain Kempegowda I, the founder of Bangalore.

The other deities housed in Halasuru Someshwara Temple are Kamakshamma, Arunachaleswara, Bhimeswara, Nanjundeswara and Panchalingeswara.

Some of the most outstanding attractions of Halasuru Someshwara Temple consist of the amazing Rajagopuram (temple entrance tower) as well as the Dhwajastambha (Main Pillar) in front of the temple. Gifted with splendid architecture, the Someshwara temple at Halasuru bears evidence for the architectural expertise of Chola period.

Additionally, there are many richly carved pillars found inside the temple premises.

Festivals: Maha Shivaratri is the major festival here. During Maha Shivaratri, people come here n large number to get Darshan of Lord Someshwara as well as the Pancha Lingeswaras.

Special rituals and ceremonies are held at Someshwara Temple, Halasur during Ugadi and Karthik Poornima.

The Brahmotsava celebrations is going to be held on the full moon day and Kamakshamma Pallaki Utsava festivals in the month of April. The deity of temple, Goddess Kamakshamma, is taken in a procession in a Pallaki (palanquin) around Halasuru Someshwara temple.
