Waterfalls Around Bangalore

If you are in Bangalore and went on weekend trips from here, you'd know that finding destinations and planning a trip is not an easy task. If you are planning to visit waterfalls around Bangalore, here are few waterfalls for you to visit.

Shivanasamudra: is a small town in the Mandya District of Karnataka. Shivanasamudra is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri.

Shivanasamudra Falls is on the Kaveri River after the river has made its way through rocks and ravines of the Deccan Plateau and drops off to form beautiful waterfalls. The island Shivanasamudra divides the river into twin waterfalls Gaganachukki and Bharachukki. A group of old temples are found at this island.

Common misunderstanding about this twin waterfalls are that the left segment is called Gaganachukki and the right segment is called Bharachukki. But in real, Bharachukki water falls is located few kilometers away from Gaganachukki. This is due to the River Kaveri itself dividing a few kilometers to the south into western and eastern branches. The western branch results in the twin waterfalls of Gaganachukki, whereas the eastern branch results in the Bharachukki falls.

Gaganachukki and Bharachukki are the best ideal picnic spot to spend one day.

Hogenakkal Falls: Hogenakkal literally means smoking rocks (in Kannada). 'Hoge' means 'Smoke' and 'kal' means 'Rock'. When the water falls on the rocks it appears as if 'hoge' is coming from the top of the 'kal' because of the force of the water. Hence, the name 'Hogenakkal'.

Hogenakkal falls is located in the Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu state. It is located at a distance of about 180 km from Bangalore. At Hogenakkal, the Kaveri, now a large river drops and creates numerous small waterfalls as the water cuts through the rocky terrain. These small falls comprise together that make up the beauty of the place.

Hogenakkal falls is a perfect for a day-trip; you can drive to here over a Saturday and get a day's off to relax. The most popular activity in Hogenakkal is the hot oil massage. This 5 minute oil message is enough to loosen tight spots in your body. After the massage, a quick shower under the falls is considered to be therapeutic.

You can also take a ride in the famous 'theppa' or coracle boats which take you around the Kaveri River that forms Hogenakkal falls.
